The N.C. Department of Transportation's Rail Division works with agencies across North Carolina to make railways and train crossings safer for everyone.
Installing traffic control devices, closing and consolidating crossings and building bridges at dangerous intersections are all part of NCDOT's efforts to reduce hazards around North Carolina railways.
Working with the Federal Railroad Administration, NCDOT safety inspectors oversee more than 3,300 miles of track, signal systems and thousands of rail cars and locomotives.
All NCDOT railway projects at the state and federal levels are designed and managed by the Rail Division with the goal of increasing efficiency and safely for trains, passengers, the public and our freight partners.
