Safari on Desktop
Safari offers translation directly in the browser if your Mac is running Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or newer operating systems.
1. In Safari, go to the webpage you want to translate.
2. If the webpage can be translated, the address bar displays the Translate button .
3. Click the Translate button, then choose a language.
Safari on Mobile
The Safari mobile App offers translation for iPhone in iOS 14+ and iPadOS 14+.
1. When you visit a website in another language, you may see the Translate button and “Translation available” flash in the address bar.
2. Tap Translate to [preferred language].
3. Tap Enable Translation if prompted.
If your mobile device has an older operating system, you can download the Google Translate App or Microsoft Translator App.

Change the Default Language in Safari
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Language & Region.
2. Click Apps.
3. Do one of the following:
- Choose a language for an app: Click the Add button, choose an app and a language from the pop-up menus, then click Add.
- Change the language for an app in the list: Select the app, then choose a new language from the pop-up menu.
- Remove an app from the list: Select the app, then click the Remove button. The app uses the default language again.
If the app is open, you may need to close and then reopen it to see the change.

Translation is built into both the desktop and mobile versions of Google’s Chrome browser. When you visit a webpage in another language, Chrome will offer to translate the page for you.
1. In Chrome, go to a webpage written in another language.
2. A pop-up may automatically appear where you can choose the language you want.
3. If the pop-up does not appear, click the Translate Button in the address bar and choose your preferred language.
Change the Default Language in Chrome
1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click More (three dot icon) and then Settings.
3. At the bottom, click Advanced.
4. Click Languages and then Language.
5. Next to the language you’d like to use, click More. (If the language isn’t listed, add it by clicking Add languages.)
6. Click Display Google Chrome in this language. (This option is only available on Windows computers.)
7. Restart Chrome to apply the changes.

The Firefox browser does not offer a translation feature currently.
However, you can translate content in Firefox using other apps or plug-ins.

Firefox on Desktop
Install the Google Translate extension. Once installed, follow the steps below to translate content.
1. In Firefox, select the content that you wish to translate.
2. Right-click on the selected content.
3. Select the “To Google Translate” option.
You can also copy and paste content to translate on the Google Translate Website.

Firefox on Mobile
There is no translation plugin for Firefox on mobile devices. You can use Google Translate Website, Google Translate App or Microsoft Translator App
You can copy and paste content at that site or in these apps for translations.

Change the Default Language in Firefox
1. Click the menu (three bar icon) button and select Settings.
2. In the Language section of the General panel, choose a language in the drop-down menu. (If your language is not listed, select “Search for more languages”)
3. Restart Firefox.

1. In Edge, open a webpage written in another language.
2. You’ll see a “Translate To” list.
3. Choose the language that you want.
Change the Default Language in Edge
1. Click the Settings (three dot icon) button and select Settings.
2. Select Languages from the Settings list.
3. To add a language to the list of Preferred languages, select Add languages.
4. Once the language is added, select the three-dot icon next to the language, and then choose Display Microsoft Edge in this language.

What is a disparity study?
A disparity study is a legal study to determine if there are disparities between the availability of disadvantaged minority-owned and women-owned firms (collectively "M/W/DBE") and their utilization in NCDOT contracting.

Disparity studies provide the factual basis for remedial contracting programs, demonstrating disparities in NCDOT contracting by race and gender status of business owners. The study will also help determine the need for, use of, or continuation of race and/or gender-based programs that address the identified disparities.
Whom should I contact in case of a roadway emergency, such as a slide or washout?
In emergencies where roadways unexpectedly become unsafe, immediately notify local law enforcement so that they can enact appropriate public safety measures. Law enforcement will contact the appropriate personnel at the N.C. Department of Transportation.
What kind of contracts can companies bid or subcontract on?
Bidder (Prime Contractor) – These contractors can bid on centrally let contracts (those let out of Raleigh) as well as division-let (those let out of a local division office) purchase order contracts (POCs) within the constraints of the limitations provided by bonding limits and/or their contractor's license. Bidders may also subcontract on any of the above contracts. The one limitation to bidders is that without a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certification, they cannot pursue SBE POCs let by the divisions. This would apply also to subcontractors.

Subcontractor – These contractors can subcontract on centrally let contracts, as well as POCs.

Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Contractor – These contractors must be SBE-certified. This is a self-certification process. They must be certified prior to bid opening. They can have the status of bidder or subcontractor, but it is not necessary. They can bid on any purchase order contract that is advertised as a SBE contract. View SBE guidelines.

Why do crews cut up the road after it is just paved?
They are removing an asphalt core, which allows a lab technician to determine the percent compaction of the asphalt pavement. If the minimum compaction percentage has not been met, the contractor can be penalized or required to remove and replace the defective mix with mix that meets the compaction specifications.
What is an unmanned aircraft system?
Commonly referred to as drones, North Carolina law defines an unmanned aircraft system as "unmanned aircraft and associated elements, including communication links and components that control the unmanned aircraft that are required for the pilot in command to operate safely and efficiently in the national airspace system."

What is the purpose of the Transportation Engineering Associates Program?
Since its inception more than 50 years ago, the Transportation Engineering Associates Program has centered on developing competitive leaders with the skills, training and experience necessary to perform in a variety of areas rather than focusing on one specific function.
