In June 2023, Christy Dunston was named the director of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Office of HBCU Outreach.
Dunston has worked in education more than 15 years of experience working in the field of education, starting her career as an elementary school teacher then transitioning to career services in higher education. She has worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
Dunston has held leadership positions in the N.C. Career Development Association and N.C. Association of Colleges and Employers.
She co-wrote an op-ed article in the National Association of Colleges and Employers Journal describing her experiences working at HBCUs.
Recently, Dunston provided her practitioner’s perspective to a textbook about career counseling focusing on her work with career development workshops and classes.
She enjoys working with others on building their career and professional confidence and skills.
Dunston is from Bunn. She has a Bachelor of Science from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Education from North Carolina State University.
