Sallie Shuping-Russell has built her career investing endowments and other institutional portfolios, where she focused on venture capital, private equity and energy.
Retired, she was a managing director at BlackRock as well as co-founder of Duke Management Company (DUMAC), which manages Duke University’s endowment.
Shuping-Russell is currently chairwoman of Carolina Research Ventures, a fund established at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to invest in companies developed with university technology. She is also commissioner of the North Carolina Banking Commission and is a trustee at St. Mary’s School in Raleigh.
Shuping-Russell was a member of the Board of Trustees at UNC-Chapel Hill from 2007 to 2015.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and political science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master of Business Administration in finance and economics from Columbia Business School.
