Preferred Alternative Selected
Based on public input provided by community and local officials, the N.C. Department of Transportation has selected a three-lane alternative as the preferred alternative and has decided to remove the proposed roundabout. Please refer to the Comment Summary & NCDOT Response to Public Comments and the Project Timeline for scheduled right of way acquisition and construction dates.
Preferred Alternatives
There are two alternatives for the project that differ only along the portion of N.C. 62 between Trail Six and Lacy Street.
One alternative features a two-lane, divided roadway design for this section. The other alternative is a three-lane road including a center turn lane. Both alternatives call for the same improvements throughout the rest of the project limits, including some widening and median in some locations.
The overall goal of the project is to improve traffic flow, help relieve traffic congestion, and support regional mobility and accessibility. Once complete, it also would better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians and enhance safety for all roadway users.
