​The project involves widening portions of Interstate 40 and the addition of and improvements to several interchanges. 

• Widening of I-40 from southeast Raleigh to Clayton
• Improvements to I-40 interchanges at Airport Boulevard and Aviation Parkway
• Interchange improvements at N.C. 86
• Widening of I-40 from Hillsborough to Durham County

Future Improvements include: 

• Interchange improvements at I-440/U.S. 1/U.S. 64
• Ramp Metering added from N.C. 54 in Chapel Hill to Wade Avenue in Raleigh​
