In 2025, NCDOT began a new intercity bus route service that connects Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Reidsville, and Danville, Va.
Operated by Sunway Charters, this bus service directly coordinates and connects with two Virginia Breeze routes to provide reliable transportation to Virginia.
The N.C. Department of Transportation recognizes the importance of providing intercity bus connections between urban and rural communities throughout North Carolina. NCDOT provides funding for 11 routes that offer daily service for North Carolinians and provides connections to a larger national intercity bus network.
NCDOT contracts with Greyhound Lines and Sunway Charters to operate these 11 routes to provide safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation in coach buses that include restroom facilities and are ADA accessible.
NCDOT continues to expand and improve its intercity bus program each year to better serve the residents of North Carolina.
