Open 24 hours a day, every day, North Carolina's highway rest areas offer opportunities for convenient, brief stops and provide easy roadside access to public restrooms and drinking water. Most also have vending machines.
Additionally, there are
nine Welcome Centers located on interstates just inside the state line, open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitor centers throughout the state also provide travel information. Hours vary at each location.
North Carolina rest areas, welcome centers and visitor centers provide equal access to all visitors.
The N.C. Department of Transportation has designated all 58 rest areas across the state as "Safe Phone Zones," and highly encourages their use.
