Project Overview
The project will upgrade a 4.7-mile section of U.S. 70 in Wilson’s Mills into a freeway that fully controls where vehicles enter and exit, like an interstate. The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to upgrade U.S. 70 between Raleigh and Morehead City into future Interstate 42.
The route currently has four travel lanes with conventional intersections and traffic signals. Two interchanges that will include bridges, ramps and loops will be constructed at Swift Creek Road and at Wilson’s Mills Road.
The remaining intersections and median openings will be closed and service roads provided to improve safety and mobility.
