Detour Maps DriveNC Cameras The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, which connects New Hanover and Brunswick counties, recently underwent a preservation project to extend its life. While the bridge is safe, it is reaching the end of its lifecycle and must be monitored, inspected and maintained on a more frequent basis. Daily inspections of the steel vertical-lift bridge built in 1969 have shown the need to conduct longer-lasting improvements. The work began in January 2024 and was complete in May 2024.
