RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in
NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Public Comment Period
NCDOT is holding a public comment period now through July 17 to help identify projects for the state’s next 10-year transportation capital plan.
There are in-person drop-in sessions for people to provide input in each of the 14 Highway Divisions statewide, as well as an online survey. You can find the survey and the in-person meeting details by going to www.ncdot.gov/STI.
Operation Firecracker Booze It & Lose It
Summer has arrived and Independence Day celebrations will soon be underway. If your festivities involve alcohol or other impairing substances, plan ahead by designating a sober driver or calling a rideshare service.
Your safety is a priority and risking it should never be an option. Whether you are operating a car, a golf cart or an ATV, never get behind the wheel if you have consumed alcohol. One drink is enough to impair your judgment.
The Operation Firecracker “Booze It & Lose It” campaign begins on Monday, June 24 and will run through July 7. The statewide initiative promotes public awareness and enforcement efforts to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities caused by impaired drivers.
540 Fest
Ahead of the phase one Triangle Expressway extension, set to open later this year, people will have a unique opportunity. Saturday morning, participants of all ages will run, bike or both on the new roadway during the 540 Fest race events.
While the races are full, spectators are welcome to attend and enjoy snacks, music and a play zone for kids. To learn more about the complete 540 project, visit ncdot.gov and search complete 540.
