STATESVILLE– Tonight, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will perform a traffic shift on Interstate 40 East as part of the I-40/I-77 interchange improvement project.
Starting at 8 p.m., traffic will be shifted between exits 150 (N.C. 115) and 154 (Old Mocksville Road) from the existing lanes to the final eastbound alignment. The existing lanes will be converted to collector/distributor lanes for the future exit to I-77/U.S. 21.
The biggest change to note for drivers is if they need to get to I-77/U.S 21, will need to do so prior to reaching the current U.S. 21 interchange (exit 151). Message boards will be installed to help drivers get used to the new traffic pattern.
Drivers should remain alert, reduce speed, and use caution in this work area.
