The Garrett A. Morgan Page Program offers
Title I junior and senior high school students from North Carolina a chance to learn firsthand about the transportation industry, including areas such as environmental analysis and public transit.
Garrett A. Morgan, an African American inventor, created the modern-day traffic light. His innovation significantly improved public safety.
About the Program
Eligible students can explore and gain exposure to the industry within the N.C. Department of Transportation and includes city transportation planning and meeting with external partners.
The program, which was originally scheduled for March 24-28, 2025 has been postponed, The new dates for this year's program will be announced at a later date.
Participants will hear from transportation industry professionals, take a train ride and present what they have learned during the week.
Who Should Apply*
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled as a North Carolina Title I high school junior or senior
- 2.75 GPA (unweighted)
- Interest in the transportation field
*Check with your high school guidance counselor to see if your school is a Title I high school.
How to Apply
Complete the online application and include a recommendation letter from one individual who can speak about your academic standing and/or character. All recommendations must be from non-relative school staff or a faculty member, or non-relative work supervisor, or a non-relative adult (over 25 years old).
Applications are no longer being accepted.
Presentation
At the end of the program, participants will present their activities and what they learned during the week.
Dress Code
Participants are expected to dress in business attire (no jeans or sweatpants) and wear comfortable shoes (sneakers are allowed) for walking.
Accomodations
It is the responsibility of each participant and their guardians to plan for accommodations, including meals, parking, and transportation during the week of the program.
