The N.C. Department of Transportation's Traffic Safety Unit regularly compiles statistics on crashes for cities and counties as well as metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and rural planning organizations (RPOs).
These areawide statistics are intended to assist these agencies in planning and improving their roadway system and tracking their progress toward better road safety.
