Safe Routes to School

The program facilitates the planning, development and implementation of projects and activities to improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption and air quality near K-12 schools.

The program includes several direct initiatives:

• Safe Routes to School Non-Infrastructure Program, a cost-reimbursement program for non-infrastructure programs and activities to local governments, regional planning organizations, schools, and other local or regional entities.​​​​
  

• Let's Go NC! Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Curriculum, a comprehensive tool designed to teach and encourage safe and healthy pedestrian and bicycle behaviors in children.​
  

• Bike to School Day and Walk to School Day​ (typically held in May and October respectively) encourage students to be physically active all year long and enjoy time with friends and family on the way to school.​​​
