Planning and project development are underway to improve traffic flow, reduce travel delays and increase safety on the inner and outer off-ramps of I-485 and the southbound lanes on I-85 South, west of Charlotte in Mecklenburg County. The proposed project is consistent with the North Carolina Strategic Highway Corridor to create a network of safe, reliable and efficient highways throughout the state.

The proposed project will provide congestion relief for motorists and commercial traffic and provide improved connectivity while supporting future economic development in the area. ​
