Project Update Meeting Set for I-26 Connector

ASHEVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is inviting the public to a project update meeting on Thursday, April 24, to show updated project plans for the northern section of the Interstate 26 Connector.

The public will learn more about the recently completed Optimization and Refinement (O&R) process for the project and may speak with engineers and NCDOT staff about various aspects of the project and its timeline.

The information session will be held from 4-7 p.m. April 24 in the Grand Ballroom at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, 31 Woodfin St. Interested residents and media can drop-in anytime. There will not be a formal presentation.

The proposed project includes improvements to I-240 at the Haywood Road interchange and construction of a new section of I-26 from the Patton Avenue interchange, across the French Broad River, where it would connect with U.S.19/23/70 south of Broadway Street. It will update the interstate corridor to meet current design standards and reduce traffic delays and congestion along I-26/I-240.

People may submit comments through the public input site or by phone, email or mail by May 25.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who wish to participate in this workshop. Anyone requiring special services should contact Jamille Robbins, Environmental Analysis Unit, at 1598 Mail Service Center in Raleigh; 919-707-6085; or jarobbins@ncdot.gov as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.

Those who do not speak English, or have a limited availability to read, speak or understand English, may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
