Manteo Multi-Use Path to be Repaired and Repaved

The popular Manteo multi-use path will be repaired and repaved over the coming weeks.

MANTEO – The popular seven-mile Manteo multi-use path in Dare County will be repaired and repaved in the coming weeks under an $892,000 contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The contract, awarded to CD Rose Construction of Kitty Hawk, includes repairing sections of the trail damaged by root intrusion, repaving the entire trail as well as the parking lot at the north end of Roanoke Island, and installing and retrofitting accessible concrete curb ramps.

Repair work is slated to begin next week, with repaving to follow in the weeks ahead.

The repaving will begin at the south end of the trail and progress northward toward the trail terminus at the Old Manns Harbor Bridge. Short sections of the trail will be closed to the public where work is taking place.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of May, weather permitting.
