GOLDSBORO – State transportation planners are inviting people to attend an open house this month to review and comment on a proposal to upgrade a Goldsboro thoroughfare.
The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to add a raised median along 1.1 miles of Wayne Memorial Drive between Country Day and West New Hope roads. The proposal includes constructing reduced conflict intersections to improve safety.
The department is inviting the public to attend a meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 27 at The Maxwell Center at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive. People may drop in at any time during the meeting to look at design maps and ask questions.
Wayne Memorial Drive is currently a five-lane road with an open-center turn lane, which increases the risk of serious crashes, particularly from drivers wanting to turn left onto the roadway. The department wishes to make this road more multi-modal by adding a 5-foot marked bicycle lane and 5-foot sidewalk in each direction.
Comment deadline
NCDOT will consider comments received by April 14 toward the final design. The project is currently scheduled to begin construction in 2028.
