MORRISVILLE – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will be closing a section of Airport Boulevard for three days to prepare for the opening of a new Diverging Diamond interchange.
Weather permitting, crews will close Airport Boulevard at Interstate 40 Friday at 10 p.m. and reopen the road Monday at 5 a.m. All right turn movements on the ramps of the interchange will remain open to traffic.
During the closure, traffic on northbound Airport Boulevard will be detoured to take I-40 East to Aviation Parkway and I-40 West back to Airport Boulevard. Southbound traffic will take I-40 West and I-540, then loop around to I-40 East to return to Airport Boulevard.
RDU traffic should use Aviation Parkway as an alternate route.
Drivers should exercise caution near the work zone and plan for longer travel times. As this is a new diverging diamond interchange, they must pay close attention to signs guiding them safely through.
