Large Boulder Removal Extends NC 105 Delays

VILAS – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is scheduled to remove large boulders from beside N.C. 105 on Monday and Tuesday leading to longer wait times for debris clearing.

Crews from Wright Brothers Construction will close the highway for short durations between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days.

The proximity of the boulders to the road, and the sheer size of the rocks, will likely require longer closures than have been necessary since rock removal operations resumed after Hurricane Helene.

On Wednesday and Thursday, transportation officials anticipate minimal midday delays for regular blasting tasks.

These operations are part of a $20 million project to replace the existing bridge over the Watauga River and improve the intersection with Broadstone Road.
