ROCKY MOUNT – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles joins Gov. Josh Stein in recognizing this week as School Bus Driver Appreciation Week.
“The Division of Motor Vehicles has the important task of training and certifying school bus drivers in North Carolina," said Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “We take very seriously our duty to prepare and equip school bus drivers to safely deliver children to and from school every day."
In 2024, the division trained and certified 3,954 new bus drivers and renewed the certifications for another 7,440 bus drivers.
There are currently 29,000 certified school bus drivers in the state, more than double the 10,000 school bus routes in the state.
