RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in
NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Slip Simulator
Across North Carolina state government, slips, trips and falls are the number one cause of injury incidents.
That is why the North Carolina Department of Transportation is investing in tools like the Slip Simulator.
The department's Safety and Risk Management Slip Simulator replicates a slick surface, allowing employees to walk safely with the use of harnesses and stride technology.
Rockingham Bypass Opening
Contract crews for NCDOT opened the new Rockingham Bypass this week in Richmond County.
The 7.2-mile route is designated as U.S. 220/Future Interstate 73/74.
The $146 million project began in 2019 and will reduce congestion in the Rockingham area by removing interstate traffic from signalized intersections, local roads, and highways.
Ferry Division Recruitment
The N.C. Ferry Division hosted a career event this week, the first in a series of five of these events.
The Division is actively looking to hire temporary and full-time positions at all experience levels, from general utility worker to experienced boat captains.
The remaining four events next month will be in various locations in the eastern part of the state to find qualified applicants to staff ferries, terminals, and shipyard.
