Editor's note: Due to a snow storm, NCDOT canceled the original meeting to be held in January, and has rescheduled it for later this month. Below is the original release with the revised dates:
WILSON – The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a feasibility study for improving access and traffic safety on Raleigh Road Parkway in Wilson.
The department will hold an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Raleigh Road Baptist Church, 4150 Raleigh Road Parkway West in Wilson. People may drop in during the meeting at any time to review conceptual design maps, ask questions and provide comments.
The department is proposing to close median openings and construct what are known as reduced conflict intersections, which redirect minor-traffic movements into going right. This innovative design reduces the risk of serious crashes, improves traffic flow and allows drivers to reach their destinations more quickly.
The study area covers a 2.6-mile section of Raleigh Road Parkway (U.S. 264 Alternate) between the Interstate 95 interchange and Airport Boulevard Northwest. The proposed improvements are not currently funded in the NCDOT's 10-year capital plan.
Public Comments
The department would like to receive public feedback through March 27 on the proposed corridor improvements. There are a variety of ways to submit comments, including at the project website; by phone at 984-205-6615 (project code 10949); or by email at RaleighRoadPkwy-Improvements@publicinput.com.
