WAXHAW – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $1.6 million contract to replace the bridge on New Town Road over the West Fork of Twelve Mile Creek in Union County.
Contractor NJR Group Inc. of Albemarle recently earned the contract that can start as early as January 2025 requiring the closure of New Town Road between Will Plyler Road and Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road until fall 2025.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured along the roads mentioned above, and a temporary signal will also be used at the Will Plyler/Waxhaw-Indian Trail intersection to help manage travel conditions.
Other related work like landscaping and vegetation establishment will continue into the spring of 2026.
