KERNERSVILLE – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will be performing a traffic shift on Kernersville Road as part of the ongoing Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.
Starting tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m., crews will reduce traffic on Kernersville Road to one lane between Linville Road and Sedge Garden Road. This traffic adjustment is necessary for the completion of new pavement markings and to switch traffic onto the new Kernersville Road bridge.
The new traffic pattern will include a diverging diamond interchange, similar to the one at the Union Cross Road bridge over I-40. In addition to the new bridge and traffic signals, the updated configuration will create left turn lanes in both directions of Kernersville Road at the Sedge Garden Road intersection
Resident Engineer Larry Shaver said, "We expedited the opening of the new bridge to allow for the creation of the left turn lanes at Sedge Garden Road. I encourage all drivers to remain alert as this new traffic pattern includes two newly signalized intersections."
Drivers on Kernersville Road should expect potential delays and are encouraged to use U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway) or I-40 as alternate routes when possible.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious and vigilant as they adjust to the new traffic configuration. The work is expected to be completed by 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
