GREENVILLE – Work to replace a decades old bridge in Greenville will begin in November.
The bridge on Oxford Road over Bells Branch Creek will close to traffic on Nov. 4. That route will remain closed until spring 2025.
The new bridge will meet the department’s current design standards and feature a concrete multi-use path.
During construction, a portion of Oxford Road near N.C. 33 will be closed. Traffic will detour onto N.C. 33, Portertown Road, King George Road and Windsor Road.
Drivers should anticipate a longer commute and be alert if traveling near the work zone.
The current bridge was built in 1966 and is owned by the City of Greenville. The N.C. Department of Transportation is constructing the new bridge and once complete, the city will handle its maintenance.
