HIGH POINT – A portion of U.S. 29 North/Business 85 North in High Point will be closed this weekend in preparation for upcoming traffic shifts associated with the ongoing interchange improvement project.
Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close U.S. 29 North starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4, until 6 a.m. on Monday, October 7. Traffic will be detoured off U.S. 29 North at the Surrett Drive Exit. Drivers will use Surrett Drive to Fairfield Drive to Main St, returning to U.S. 29 North.
Additionally, the left lane of U.S. 29 South will be closed during this time to prepare for future traffic shifts onto a temporary detour bridge.
Also, starting on October 4, the exit ramp to South Main Street for Northbound U.S. 29 (Cloverleaf Place exit ramp) will also be closed until 6 a.m. on Monday, October 14. A signed detour will guide drivers through the area..
These closures are necessary to facilitate paving operations associated with the project to upgrade the South Main Street interchange. The project includes replacing a bridge from the 1950s, widening South Main Street, and updating the interchange to modern design standards. A traffic shift onto a temporary bridge is anticipated once work is completed.
Drivers are advised to plan for potential delays and stay alert to changing conditions. All closures are weather permitting, and updates will be provided as the schedule evolves.
