SANFORD - The N.C. Department of Transportation is considering next steps for the future of a Chatham County Bridge over the Rocky River.
The 103-year-old bridge on Chatham Church Road closed in May due to safety concerns with deteriorating steel components.
Currently the options are repairing the existing bridge, replacing the existing bridge with a new bridge, or removing the existing bridge without replacing it. NCDOT has hired a consultant firm, MI Engineering, to evaluate these options.
A public information session is anticipated and will be announced at a later date.
