WALLACE - A portion of N.C. 41 at the railroad tracks in Wallace will be closed for a couple of weeks for improvements.
Between Aug. 19 and 30, N.C. 41 near SE Railroad Street will be closed to traffic.
Rail crews will remove old tracks and install new ones, while the N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct pavement removal and replacement as part of the project.
While commercial vehicles will be detoured onto N.C. 41 (Wallace Highway), U.S. 421, N.C. 11 and U.S. 117, other traffic can use downtown streets to access either side of the closure.
Drivers should plan ahead for a potentially longer commute and use caution near the worksite.
