RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 Project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.
Due to inclement conditions, the previously announced U.S. 401 and Donny Brook Road closures have been rescheduled to begin on or around July 26 at 9:00 p.m. through July 28 at 5:00 a.m. and July 28 at 5:00 a.m. through July 29 at 5:00 a.m.
Beginning on or around July 26 at 9:00 p.m. through July 28 at 5:00 a.m., U.S. 401 between Donny Brook Road and W. Allen Street is scheduled to temporarily close to all traffic. Local access along U.S. 401 will be maintained south of Ten Ten Road throughout the scheduled closure. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route by following signs along the roadway.
Drivers wishing to access U.S. 401 north of the closure will use the following detour route:
- Drive north on U.S. 401
- Turn left onto Donny Brook Road
- Turn right onto Lake Wheeler Road
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road
- Turn left onto U.S. 401
Drivers wishing to access U.S. 401 south of the closure will use the following detour route:
- Drive south on U.S. 401
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road
- Turn left onto Lake Wheeler Road
- Turn left onto Donny Brook Road
- Turn right onto U.S. 401
Following the closure, on or around July 28 at 5:00 a.m. through July 29 at 5:00 a.m. Donny Brook Road at the intersection of U.S. 401 is scheduled to temporary close to through traffic. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route by following signs along the roadway.
Drivers wishing to access Donny Brook Road west of the closure will use the following detour route:
- Drive north on U.S 401
- Turn left onto Ten Ten Road
- Turn left onto Lake Wheeler Road
- Turn left onto Donny Brook Road
The road closure and detour have been coordinated with Wake Technical Community College Southern Wake Campus and will allow for continued operations during construction activities.
The temporary closures and associated detours are weather dependent. Road closure signs will be installed. Drivers should expect delays and should pay close attention when navigating the work zone.
