CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation invites the public to learn more about proposed improvements to a stretch of Independence Boulevard (U.S. 74) between Interstate 277 in uptown Charlotte and Interstate 485 in Matthews.
The overall project is needed to improve congestion along this crucial connection to Charlotte, Matthews and Union County. More information and project maps are available on the NCDOT Public Input website which includes the corridor's ultimate buildout and individual maps of the various segments that comprise the proposed improvements.
A public, drop-in style meeting will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23 in the cafeteria of East Mecklenburg High School, 600 Monroe Road in Charlotte. People may attend the meeting at any time to discuss the project with NCDOT staff. There will not be a formal presentation.
People who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments in writing, by email and by phone through Aug. 9. All comments received will be reviewed and considered as the development process continues.
