Portion of New Interchange Set to Open in Randolph County

LIBERTY – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor plans to open a portion of a new interchange along U.S. 421 in Randolph County next week.

The southbound side of the new interchange at Julian Airport Road and U.S. 421 is expected to open to traffic on June 19. The exits will provide access between U.S. 421 South and the Toyota battery plant.

The new interchange is replacing an traditional intersection U.S. 421 and will improve safety and mobility with additional truck traffic in the area.  Once completed later this summer, the interchange will be a fully functional movement interchange providing access to U.S. 421 north and southbound.
The interchange is the result of the $100 million the General Assembly appropriated for site improvements for the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite.
Drivers should remember this is an active work zone and be mindful of crews improving the roadways throughout the area.
