THOMASVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily detour traffic from a portion of U.S. 29/70 in Davidson County near Davidson-Davie Community College to complete a traffic shift.
Beginning tomorrow night, at 8 p.m., northbound and southbound U.S. 29/70 traffic will be placed on an offsite detour, while crews prepare for the traffic shift. Traffic will remain on the offsite detour until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The following signed detours will be in place:
- U.S. 29/70 North: Drivers will exit onto Caldcleugh Road, which merges onto Old Greensboro Road, continue past the roundabout at Davidson-Davie Community College for approximately 1 mile before turning right onto Evans Road. At the end of Evans Road, drivers will turn right onto U.S. 29/70 South and merge to the left lane to perform a U-turn onto U.S. 29/70 North.
- U.S. 29/70 South: Drivers will exit at Evans Road and continue to Old Greensboro Road, turn left onto Old Greensboro Road past the roundabout at Davidson-Davie Community College, and merge onto Caldcleugh Road. At the end of Caldcleugh Road, drivers will turn right onto U.S. 29/70 South.
When the closed portion of U.S. 29/70 is reopened Wednesday morning, northbound traffic will be in a new traffic pattern.
If needed to complete additional work associated with the traffic shift, north and southbound traffic will be placed on the offsite detour on Wednesday and Thursday night.
Drivers are reminded to use caution when approaching the work zone and expect delays due to the detours.
