SMITHFIELD – A bridge on N.C. 210 west of Smithfield is scheduled to close Monday for reconstruction.
Built during the Great Depression, the bridge spanning Middle Creek is nearing the end of its lifespan. Wilson-based S.T. Wooten Corp. will replace the bridge under a $3.2 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation in February.
The closure will begin at 8 a.m. Monday. The closure is expected to last 13 months.
Message boards and detour signs have been posted to direct drivers onto Swift Creek, Cleveland and Crantock roads. The detour will lengthen one's commute, and people needing to access N.C. 210 should be cautious near the closure.
