LONG CREEK – A century-old bridge is set to be replaced thanks to a contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The bridge on N.C. 210 over Long Creek was built in 1921. While safe, it is no longer up to current design standards.
This month, NCDOT awarded a $5 million contract to Smith-Rowe LLC of Mount Airy. The contractor can begin construction on the new 205-foot bridge as early as this spring and is expected to complete the work by spring 2026.
Traffic will remain on the existing bridge while the new one is built next to it. Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures and frequent large trucks entering the highway throughout construction.
