Public Meeting Set for Proposed Improvements to N.C. 16 in Lincoln County

DENVER – The N.C. Department of Transportation invites the public to learn more about a project in development to improve traffic flow at two intersections along N.C. 16 in Denver and to establish a new connector road in the vicinity.

Three design alternatives are being considered to improve N.C. 16 where it meets Forney Hill Road/Campground Road and St. James Church Road/Will Proctor Street. These intersections currently experience heavy congestion during peak travel times. The project also proposes a connecting road to the west of existing N.C. 16 Business with roundabouts at each of the connector's termini.

The local Denver Historic District boundary and Rock Springs Campground have been identified as important historic sites in the area. The Department is coordinating with the State Historic Preservation Office during the project development phase to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts as much as possible.

A public, drop-in style meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. April 9 at Denver United Methodist Church, 3910 North N.C. 16. People may attend the meeting at any time to discuss the project with NCDOT staff. There will not be a formal presentation.

People who cannot attend the meeting may submit comments in writing, by email and by phone through May 7. All comments received will be reviewed and considered as the development process continues.
