GREENVILLE – Construction on Dickinson Avenue will resume this week, nearly a year after pausing.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor, Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh, will begin work on Wednesday. Crews will begin in Section 6, in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Ficklen Street. While this area will be walkable, this section of roadway will be closed to drivers due to construction and machinery.
Traffic will be detoured onto 14th and Evans streets. Drivers should be cautious near this area and be mindful of the detour adding to their commutes. Pedestrians should also be alert while walking around the construction.
After finishing the first section last spring, the original contractor abandoned the work site and was found to be in breach of contract. So, NCDOT worked over the last several months to secure a new contractor. While the scope of the work remains the same, the schedule has shifted.
