NCDOT to Hold Public Meeting on Elizabeth City Road Improvements

ELIZABETH CITY – The N.C. Department of Transportation is hosting a public, drop-in style meeting next week for people to learn more about a proposed project that would make improvements on U.S. 17 (Hughes Boulevard) in Elizabeth City

The proposed project would change signalized intersections to roundabouts, remove left turn movements from all side streets and construct a raised median, among other improvements. The project is intended to increase mobility and safety through the busy corridor.

The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Knobbs Creek Recreation Center, 200 East Ward St., Elizabeth City. People may stop by anytime to discuss the project with NCDOT staff, but there will be no formal presentation. More information and project maps are available on the project website.

People may also submit comments by phone at 984-205-6615, code 4070, by email US17-elizabethcity@publicinput.com or by mail to John Abel, NCDOT Division Project Leader, 113 Airport Dr., Suite 100, Edenton, N.C. 27932. Comments will be collected through March 6.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Sunil Singh at scsingh@ncdot.gov or 919-707-6087 as early as possible so arrangements can be made.
