RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Roscoe Award
When a motorist is stranded along Interstate 95, NCDOT's safety patrol is there to help.
Willy Odom is a part of the fleet of safety patrol drivers for the department, a force that helps keep our interstates free of hazards and broken-down vehicles that could impede traffic.
Odom was recognized this week as the department's top Roadside Assistance driver.
The Roscoe Award goes each year to one driver for demonstrating outstanding contributions to the program.
To learn more about the program, go to NCDOT.gov and search 'Safety Patrol'.
Black History Month
February is Black History Month, and the department celebrates by recognizing employees who have and continue to contribute to our diverse transportation network.

Celebrate Responsibly
The Big Game is here, and the department wants to remind you to celebrate responsibly.
Whether you're cheering for San Francisco or Kansas City every party must kick off with a game plan that prevents impaired driving.
If you're going to drink, find a safe ride home. Download ridesharing apps, designate a sober driver, locate public transportation options or call a cab.
Play it smart by having a plan in place to not drink and drive.
