Public Meeting Set for Proposed Improvements to Cox Road in Gaston County

GASTONIA– The N.C. Department of Transportation invites the public to learn more about a project in development to improve a section of Cox Road between Interstate 85 and U.S. 29/74.

The project aims to address several needs in the vicinity, including congestion near CaroMont Regional Medical Center that contributes to issues at nearby intersections, and providing improved connectivity for drivers and pedestrians within the study area.

The Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan Planning Organization's 2040 Comprehensive Transportation Plan identifies this segment of Cox Road as needing improvement in both highway and pedestrian categories.

The drop-in-style meeting will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Feb.15 at the Gastonia Police Station, 200 E. Long Avenue. People may attend at any time to discuss the projects with NCDOT staff. More information and project maps are available on the NCDOT Public Input site.

People can provide comments through March 1 at (984) 205-6615, code 4919, by email at Cox-Road-Gastonia@publicinput.com, through the Public Input portal, or by mail to Nora McCann, Project Manager, NCDOT Project Management Unit, 1582 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Diane Wilson at pdwilson1@ncdot.gov or 919-707-6073 as early as possible so arrangements can be made.
