INDIAN TRAIL – The N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded an $18 million contract to extend a half-mile section of Chestnut Parkway in Indian Trail.
The contractor, K. West Group LLC DBA from Ohio will build a new segment from Matthews-Indian Trail Road to Gribble Road, including a grade separation over the CSX railroad, and a roundabout at Gribble Road.
The project also includes a reduced conflict intersection at U.S. 74/Chestnut Parkway. This term is used to describe several types of designs used to improve safety in traffic flow. While there are variations to the design, they function the same way by reducing by almost half the number of potential locations, or conflict points, where drivers and pedestrians can collide.
The Town of Indian Trail will build a third section of this project between Gribble and Old Monroe roads, ultimately creating a new connection between U.S. 74 and Old Monroe Road.
Tree clearing for the project is complete with work starting as early as mid-March. The road portion of the project should be complete in summer 2026, with landscaping and vegetation continuing into winter 2027.
