All-Way Stop Coming to Moore County Intersection

CAMERON - An all-way stop will be installed at an intersection in Moore County tomorrow morning.

Beginning at 9 a.m. the N.C. Department of Transportation will make the traffic change at the intersection of N.C. 690 and McPherson Road. Currently, only drivers on McPherson Road must stop.

The work is anticipated to be completed in the early afternoon, weather permitting.

Drivers should slow down and use caution as flaggers will be on-site directing traffic during the work.

An all-way stop is an effective, cost-efficient way to improve the safety of an intersection and reduce the risk of serious crashes.

What to do at an All-Way Stop:

  • The first vehicle at the intersection has the right of way.
  • When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way and may go straight or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right.
  • When two facing vehicles approach an intersection simultaneously, both drivers can move straight ahead or turn right, after coming to a complete stop. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield.
  • Even with the right of way, drivers should remember to us appropriate turn signals and watch for pedestrians and other vehicles.
