MORRISVILLE- Overnight closures are scheduled to start this weekend as part of ongoing work for the Airport Boulevard project.
Weather permitting, I-40 West is set to close at Airport Boulevard from midnight to 5 a.m. starting Sunday through Tuesday, Jan. 16. One lane of I-40 West will initially close to traffic at 8 p.m., followed by all the westbound lanes by midnight.
Crews will then move work to the eastbound lanes of I-40 starting Tuesday, Jan. 16 through Tuesday, Jan. 23. One lane will close at 8 p.m. with a full closure by midnight.
Work resumes Tuesday night, Jan.23 through Friday, Jan. 26 on I-40 West again. Same nightly closures with one lane closed at 8 p.m. and all westbound lanes closed by midnight.
Because traffic cannot go underneath the bridge for construction, drivers will be detoured to use the Airport Boulevard exit, cross over and get back the direction of I-40 they were travelling.
NCDOT officials urge drivers to factor these construction activities into their trip and remain alert throughout the work zone.
