GREENSBORO – A section of Interstate 40 West will close for a major resurfacing project this weekend starting Friday at 9 p.m.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close all lanes of I-40 West from the I-85 split (Exit 227) to Freeman Mill Road (Exit 281). In addition, all entrance ramps to that stretch will close, plus U.S. 29 South will close at the Market Street exit.
Contract crews will mill out old asphalt and place a new surface in less than 60 hours. The entire section and entrance ramps should reopen by 6 a.m. Monday.
A marked detour will direct I-40 West drivers to utilize I-85 South and I-73 North to return to I-40 West.
Drivers should plan ahead for this construction, and while in the work zone, remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs.
