PINNACLE - The N.C. Department of Transportation has temporarily closed the bridge on Jim McKinney Road over Pilot Creek.
Crews from the Elkin Bridge Maintenance Unit are replacing the 66-year-old bridge, which had a weight restriction of 13 tons for standard vehicles and 16 tons for multi-axle trucks.
The new bridge will open in two months, weather permitting. The new, 50-foot-long bridge will have 42-inch-high guardrails for additional safety and will have no weight restrictions.
Motorists are encouraged to use the 4.5-mile detour:
- Jim McKinney Road to Shoals Road
- Shoals Road to N.C. 268
- N.C. 268 to Burge Road
- Burge Road to Jim McKinney Road
