RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $45.3 million contract this summer to improve U.S. 401 intersections at Ligon Mill/Mitchell Mill roads and at Perry Creek Road in north Raleigh.

Some of the highlights include:
- Realigning Ligon Mill Road to cross U.S. 401 just north of its current location.
- Reconfiguring the existing Mitchell Mill Road intersection with U.S. 401 as a continuous-flow intersection.
- Transforming Perry Creek Road at U.S. 401 into a Reduced Conflict Intersection.
- Widening existing bridges over the Neuse River, accommodating an additional lane and 10-foot multi-use path
Construction is expected to begin mid-October and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
