WINSTON-SALEM – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will temporarily close the Interstate 40 east bound exit ramp at Union Cross Road (Exit 201) as part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.
In conjunction with this closure, I-40 East right lane will also close at this exit ramp, beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. The right lane and exit ramp are scheduled to reopen by 9 a.m. Sunday.
These closures, which are needed to protect highway workers and the traveling public, will continue from 8 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.
This work is weather-dependent and could be postponed.
Motorists will be provided two detour routes:
•Take the U.S. 311/I-74 Exit 196 prior to Union Cross Road
•Continue past Exit 201 and take Exit. 203 (N.C. 66), turning around and traveling back on I-40 westbound to Exit 201.
Motorists are reminded to remain alert and plan accordingly for delays when using detour routes and new traffic patterns.
