RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Bus/Pedestrian Safety

School is back in session which means more school buses on the road.

With nearly 1.5 million students returning to the classroom this month across North Carolina, school bus safety is paramount.

This week, state leaders met in Raleigh to remind citizens of the important role they play in keeping our children safe.

Keep your heads up, your phones down, and be patient and alert.

Train to Charlotte for UNC Game

College football season is finally upon us and for one triangle fan base, a trip to Charlotte is already in order.

UNC takes on South Carolina Saturday, September 2 at Bank of America Stadium and NC By Train has your transportation covered.

Kids Fare

The Summer Kids Fare is coming to a close soon.
