SPRING HOPE – A Nash County bridge spanning the Tar River will be reconstructed, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $6.1 million contract last month.
The N.C. 581 bridge south of Spring Hope needs replacing. Built in 1949, the bridge is nearing the end of its useful lifespan.
The project will not require a detour. The contactor, S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson, will build the new bridge alongside the existing one, then shift traffic onto the new bridge and demolish the existing bridge.
The project will start this fall and is expected to finish by the fall of 2025.
